Recently moved to NYC from LA, but I wasn't the only one making an adjustment. The lack of grass and space was a big change for Ace- my amazing little brother (furry friend- lab/shepherd/pit bull mix). At first, we were separated as I was settling in, but we've reunited again and my company Elliott Browne has welcomed him with open arms. Now known as the company dog, he brightens everyone's day and brings positive energy into the workplace. From his morning greeting to everyone (I swear he was a senator in a previous life) to joining in on team meetings, Ace has been a game changer. Everyone's feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and he's even sparked cross-pollination at our WeWork location. Apparently, we're not the only ones seeing huge benefits- Amazon has been leading the way.
Dogs in the workplace provide more social support for employees, as well as more opportunities for coworkers to interact in a positive setting, according to a number of studies. Social support, or that feeling of being cared for, also serves as “a key factor in whether people with serious mental illness return to work or remain employed,” according to a May 2017 study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.
